Clouds and Skyscrapers

some days, all I can see are skyscrapers,
wishing they could block the clouds
But some clouds are too bright to block
And others will just seep through.
It was just yesterday that a glimmer
of a whisper of a hope of sunlight
peaked through the clouds covering my heart.

And in that instant, I remembered.

There were happier days, not too long ago
When birds took flight under sunshine so bright.
All I can see are the bright sunlight patterns
that have been scratched into the clouds;
No matter how hard I try to fly
Dreams are just the pigment
In which reality is painted
And I cannot escape
